1950s Housewife postcard
These
postcards were an expression of a longer social
movement that began in the late 1930’s and peaked
during the Second World War. Pin-up girls were
sometimes photographed but most often drawn. Famous
actresses were often turned into Pinups but most
images were anonymous. While woman were captured in
provocative poses, it was done without being
revealing. Their conflicting duality made them
sexually attractive to men while representing the
independent woman. In the 1950s post war years
pin-ups became one dimensional tools of suggestive
sexuality
